Google Ads API integration

Dr.DIO · drdio.studio

Design document for our Google Ads API application.

Who we are

Dr.DIO is an independent one-person music project. We write, produce and publish original electronic music on our own YouTube channel and on this site. There are no clients, no agency work and no third parties. The software described here is used by its author for the author's own accounts only.

What the tool is

Dr.DIO Studio is an internal automation service that already runs the channel end to end: it assembles video programmes from our own music, uploads them to YouTube, sets thumbnails, writes titles, descriptions and tags, and reads YouTube Analytics to decide what to publish next. It is not a product, it is not offered to anyone else, and it has no user accounts besides the owner's own login.

Why we need the API

We already advertise our own videos through Google Ads and manage the campaigns by hand. The same decisions that the studio makes automatically - which programme deserves promotion, what daily budget it gets, when to pause a campaign that is not paying back - are currently typed into the web interface. The API removes that manual step for our own account.

Planned use of the API

Reading: campaign, ad group and video performance reports, cost, cost per view, daily spend, campaign status and daily budget.

Writing: pause and resume our own video campaigns, change daily budget and bids, create video campaigns for videos we have just published on our own channel.

We do not create, read or modify anything in accounts that do not belong to us, we do not resell access, and we do not expose the API to third parties in any form.

Accounts

Google Ads account and manager account are ours, created for this project. The Google Cloud project is drdio-studio. Credentials live on our own server and are never shared.

Data handling

Report data is stored on our own server and used to decide our own advertising spend. It contains no personal data of any person: the reports are aggregate statistics about our own videos. Nothing is passed to anyone else. See our privacy policy and terms.
