The story

Two miles out, past the last channel marker, a mooring buoy turns in the current all night long. No ship has tied to it in years. Its small lamp still works, sweeping a faint ring of light across the swell with every slow rotation — not a warning, not a welcome, just a fact repeated at the sea's own tempo. From the shore you can watch the ring appear, travel, vanish, and appear again. The buoy is keeping vigil over nothing in particular, which may be the purest kind of vigil there is.

Spin Drift Vigil matches that rotation. It is hollow ambient drone: a wide, empty resonance turning at 67 BPM, tones in F sharp minor rising and subsiding like water finding its level against the float. There is no melody to follow, only the sweep — a soft crest of harmonics that passes through the stereo field, recedes, and returns a breath later. The hollowness is deliberate. The track is a container shaped exactly like the quiet you pour into it.

Use it the way the sea uses the buoy: ambient drone for unwinding after a heavy day, letting each sweep take a little tension out with it; slow drone for pre-sleep drift when thoughts need permission to circle without landing; a still backdrop for late-evening reading when the house has gone quiet. It never accelerates and it never stops, and both of those facts become comforting sooner than you would expect.

The track turns within the ritual, cosmic, evening, focus and sleep rotations of Dr.DIO's dark-hours catalog, on the 24/7 radio at drdio.studio. A video version of Spin Drift Vigil drifts onto the official Dr.DIO YouTube channel — the lamp, the ring of light, the patient swell. The vigil continues whether or not anyone watches. It is nicer when someone does.

Unwinding after a heavy day, pre-sleep wind-down with the lights off, late-evening reading, slow wordless watching from a dark window.
