The story

Forty miles now, and the headlights in the mirror have not gained a meter. They vanish on the curves and reappear on the straights, always at the same polite distance, like a sentence someone keeps almost saying. You have tested them — slowed to a crawl, pushed past sense — and the gap never changes. At some point the fear turned into company. Whatever is back there does not want to catch you. It wants you to keep driving.

Always Behind converts that arrangement into noir pursuit techno: a dry, insistent kick at 125 BPM, chrome-cold synth stabs, and a bassline that stays deliberately unresolved — refusing to name its key the way the car behind refuses to name its driver. Details surface in the mid-range like signage in high beams, readable for a second, then gone. The groove never breaks into panic; it maintains, which is far more unsettling and far more useful.

This is pursuit techno for night drives first — empty highways, sodium-lit bridges, a tank you filled at midnight with no destination in particular. The same maintained pressure works as noir techno for night training, when you need a pace-keeper with a hint of threat, and as momentum for rain-slick city loops where every mirror has a story. It asks only that you keep moving; stopping is where the track ends and the silence gets loud.

The cut sits on the noir spine of Dr.DIO's catalog, kin to his other midnight-pursuit pieces but leaner than any of them. It patrols the drive and workout rotations of the 24/7 radio at drdio.studio through the small hours. A video version — dashcam footage in which the following headlights never grow and never fade — is released on the official Dr.DIO YouTube channel, and viewers report checking their own mirrors afterward.

Empty highway night drives, rain-slick city loops after midnight, night training sessions, pace-keeping on late commutes home.
