The story

Bassoon Crypt is led by a contrabassoon, its sub-low orchestral growl doubling as a second bass voice beneath the dominant sub-bass at 90 BPM in F minor phrygian. A baritone electric guitar adds a low, growling tone alongside it, both instruments locking into the track's slow, ceremonial pulse. Nothing here rushes; the ceremonial pulse stays deliberate and heavy across the full arrangement.

A low minor-key drone bed sits under detuned sub pads, the sub-bass itself acting like cathedral pressure rather than rhythm, mile-marker beats spacing the piece out deliberately. Sparse dissonant clusters and slow rumble swells rise through the mix, muted highs keeping the whole texture dark and enclosed. The overall texture stays dark and enclosed throughout, favoring dread over any melodic release.

The phrygian mode gives every gesture a solemn, ritual weight, contrabassoon and baritone guitar trading low phrases across long silences. Headlights-through-eclipse imagery runs through the closing section as the drone thickens, the track ending on the same unresolved, dread-laden tone it opened with. The dread never resolves cleanly, the closing tone matching exactly where the piece began.

For dark ritual scenes, horror scoring reference, solemn late-night listening, or slow dread-building sound design work.

«Obsidian Litany» is a sacred piece at 90 BPM in F Minor (phrygian), running 3:00, released July 11, 2026. It streams in the Dark Ritual rotation on Dr.DIO Radio — free, 24/7, with new music added daily.
