The story

The track opens low, almost beneath hearing. A sub-bass hum sits at 30-60Hz like pressure against a hull, steady and unbroken, while a fat warm bass line curls underneath the beat, thick and round rather than sharp. The kick lands soft, dusty, half-time, the kind of boom-bap swing that drags its feet on purpose. Vinyl crackle ticks in the background like static from an old radio picked up mid-crossing.

A duduk enters somewhere off to the side, distant and reedy, its wail bending through a wide reverb tail that never quite resolves. A sitar-guitar drone answers underneath, strings ringing out long after they're plucked, glassy and slightly detuned. Sonar pings surface at odd intervals, cold and metallic, cutting through the muted, underwater highs like something scanning for a shape in the dark.

Around the midpoint the dub-chord stabs arrive, filtered and swept slowly, opening and closing like a door breathing. The wavetable lead traces a minimal, almost reluctant melody, four or five notes repeated with small variations, catchy in a half-asleep way. Sub-drops hit hard on select downbeats, massive and brief, shaking the low end without ever breaking the hypnotic, swung pulse the drums keep underneath everything.

By the final minute the layers thin rather than build. The duduk fades into tape echo, the sitar drone stretches thinner, and the sub-bass keeps its grip to the last bar. Nothing resolves into brightness. The track ends the way it started, low and watchful, like fog closing back over a shoreline once the light has passed.

Late-night drives along the coast, headphone sessions after midnight, tense writing or editing work, slow-motion scenes in a film score playlist.
