The story

Deep Water Telegraph opens fully built at roughly 80 BPM in F minor, every element present from the first bars rather than assembling gradually, the alphorn used less as a melodic lead than as a foghorn calling out across black water. A dub techno chord answers it, drenched in long tape echo that repeats and smears with each pass, the two elements trading calls over an enormous dub sub filling the low end.

Rather than building toward a climax, the track works in reverse, taking itself apart element by element as it progresses, each section removing a layer instead of adding one. The dub sub thins first, then the chord's echo trail grows sparser, the arrangement steadily emptying out until only the alphorn and its trailing tape echo remain, suspended over near silence.

At the point of maximum emptiness a single final chord returns, bringing every element back at once rather than rebuilding gradually, a sudden reversal after the long unwinding. That last chord carries the full weight the track opened with, the foghorn and echo and dub sub reunited briefly before the extended outro lets it all recede again into fog.

A foggy coastal drive, deep dub listening sessions, a slow-motion ocean documentary, or late-night decompression.
