The story
The track opens on almost nothing: a sub-bass drone sitting under 60Hz, thick enough to feel in the chest before it's heard. A vocoded chant surfaces above it, ghostly and wordless, more texture than voice. The kick arrives soft and round, half-time, dusty, like it's been buried in sand for years.
Around the second minute the alphorn enters, a long deep call that sounds like it's coming from across a valley. It doesn't resolve so much as hang there, doubled by slow filter sweeps on the pad layers beneath it. The bass keeps its groove low and warm, never rising above a murmur, letting the horn own the space.
The violin solo comes in past the midpoint, thin and mournful over the minor7 chord bed, bending notes the way wind bends over dunes. Vinyl crackle ticks along under the boom-bap beat, keeping time without ever getting sharp or bright. Nothing here is percussive in the usual sense — the drums support, they don't lead.
By the close the chant and horn fold back into the drone, the violin fading last, and the sub-bass is what remains, still holding the low end steady. It ends the way it began: unresolved, wide open, like the horizon it's named for.
