The story
The track opens with a bowed cello line, low and unhurried, its wood grain audible under a thin coat of tape saturation. A felt-muted piano answers a few bars later, close-miced so you can hear the hammer softness, each chord decaying into a cavernous plate reverb that never quite closes.
Underneath, a sub-bass sits at 30 to 60Hz, constant and pressurized, less a note than a felt weight in the chest. A warm 60-120Hz bass moves in loose, groovy steps beneath the piano's wistful motifs, keeping the minor7 beds from going static.
Midway through, the arrangement thins to near silence: a restrained cello counter-melody, glassy string harmonics, and a harp glissando drifting through like dust caught in late light. Upright bass pizzicato taps in briefly, then steps back out.
By the close, the felt piano and cello trade phrases one last time over the same sustained low end, vinyl crackle settling into the mix like an old recording found by accident. Nothing resolves cleanly — the last chord just fades into the reverb tail, unfinished on purpose.
