The story
Hurdy Machine runs at 124 BPM in A minor, a hurdy gurdy providing both drone and buzz as the harmonic engine of the piece, its crank-driven wheel rhythm doubling the machine pulse so the ancient instrument functions like a piece of rhythmic hardware rather than a folk melody. A distorted guitar riff cuts across it in short stabs, and a modular drone shifts slowly underneath both.
Deep kick and metallic transients keep the industrial floor solid, tape saturation applied across the whole mix bus to give even the harshest transients a rounded, physical edge. The track opens fully built, every element present at once, before taking itself apart piece by piece until only the hurdy gurdy's drone and the bare kick remain, hypnotic and stripped to its rawest form.
An extended mid-section rebuilds from that stripped point with a second theme carried in harmonized guitar, thickening the arrangement back up gradually. The final section lands louder and wider than the fully-built opening, guitar and hurdy gurdy now stacked together, before a reprise of the bare drone returns one last time ahead of a slow outro fade.
An industrial art installation, a mechanical documentary score, dark techno warehouse sets, or focused workshop sessions.
