The story
Reverse Steam shares its locomotive-momentum concept with a companion piece, building at 126 BPM in A minor with palm-muted guitar chugs and a deep kick working like pistons while shakers hiss like escaping steam, the rhythm never stopping and only stacking further layers as it progresses. A reversed piano again swells backward into every downbeat above it.
A viola saws a mournful counter-line through amp overdrive as before, its raw texture cutting against the piano's unnatural reversed swell. The same production tricks stay audible: a tape stop before the drop, stuttered edits on the last bar of each section, a filter sweep opening the second half, and a sub drop landing under the single biggest hit in this longer version of the piece.
The first climax again runs everything at once before a half-time collapse leaves the viola alone over the bare piston pulse. An extended mid-section adds a second theme in harmonized viola, the longer running time here letting that build stretch out further before the final climax surpasses the opening in scale by a genuinely wide margin, the pistons hammering to the last bar.
A longer industrial-cinematic session, an extended mechanical ritual scene, dark techno listening, or sustained focus work.
