The story

The track opens low, almost underground: a round sub-bass hum sits under everything before a single drum hits, like pressure building in a sealed room. When the beat arrives it's half-time and swung, dusty in the way old boom-bap records are dusty, brushed with vinyl crackle that never quite clears.

Rhodes chords enter next, warm and slightly detuned, voicing minor harmony with a tired, late-hour weight. An upright bass answers underneath in loose pizzicato, less rhythm-section discipline and more conversation, each note landing a beat behind where you expect it.

Midway through, mellotron strings rise from the back of the mix, warbly and lo-fi, filtered until they sound like a recording of a recording. The lead motif threads through them sparsely, three or four notes repeated with small variations, never resolving fully, just circling the same ache.

By the close, the drums thin out and the sub-bass takes over almost alone, the Rhodes fading into reverb tails that seem to keep going after the track technically ends. Nothing here rushes. It just sits with the feeling until it's ready to let go.

Late-night drives, winding down after work, writing in low light, or falling asleep with headphones still on.
