The story

The corridor has an exit at each end, both marked, both lit, both wrong. Walk toward either one and the corridor quietly adds length behind you. The trick, according to the only person who ever got out, is to stop choosing: keep a steady pace, watch the doors without wanting them, and let the corridor get bored of you first. Some claim the corridor is a test; the corridor has never confirmed this. The lights hum at a pitch you stop hearing after a minute, which is how it prefers things. This track is that pace, written down.

Between Two Exits is noir bass music at 141 BPM in F minor, a meditative dread-engine of rolling sub pressure and clipped, disciplined percussion. The two-note motif at its centre swings between adjacent chords without ever committing, exactly like the corridor's doors. Every sixteen bars an oceanic swell washes through and resets the distance, so arrival stays permanently one corner away. Hi-hats keep strict time overhead, small and dry, like footsteps convinced they belong to someone else.

The steadiness is the feature. As bass for deep work it behaves like a metronome with a shadow: coders and night editors use precisely this kind of pressure to stop noticing time. As 140-range music for night training it holds pace through the sets that decide whether the workout counted. In headphones it becomes deep listening about patience itself, dread turned into a handrail.

Dr.DIO wrote it as an exercise in refusing resolution: every element that threatens to arrive is quietly re-routed somewhere further along. What remains is calm in the way a held breath is calm, and a held breath, after all, is still breath. The corridor stays open around the clock on the 24/7 radio at drdio.studio; entry is easy, and the exits are negotiable.

All-night coding, decisive gym sets, treadmill kilometres, headphone endurance listening.
