The story

The track opens low, almost underground: a sub-bass hum sitting at 30-60Hz that never really leaves, just breathes wider or narrower as the piece moves. Over it, a warm round bass fills the middle like fog under sodium lights. There's no drum intro to speak of, just soft-attack pulses that arrive like footsteps on a distant platform.

The spiral motif enters carried by duduk, rising in thirds, patient and a little mournful, before the muted trumpet takes it over with a noir slur. Each time the phrase returns it's handed to someone new: alphorn calling from far off like a mountain answering the city, viola threading a woody, human midvoice underneath. Nothing repeats identically twice.

Around the midpoint a 16th-note arpeggio locks in, hypnotic and swung, and the liquid DnB bass starts rolling beneath the drone without ever rushing the tempo. Bowed cello holds the floor, ney breaths slip through the gaps, and a distant bell tolls twice, marking time in a room that otherwise has none.

By the close everything thins back to the sub and a soft tape echo trailing the last trumpet note. Frame drum taps fade like the last passenger leaving. It ends the way it began, hushed, unresolved, warm.

For late train platforms, half-sleep before dawn, candlelit winding down, or long drives with no destination in mind.
