The story
A detuned saw states a descending passacaglia motif around F# minor dorian, the melodic backbone of the piece, while half-time reverbed drums keep the tempo at a slow, tidal 92 BPM. Dominant sub-bass sits fat and warm beneath everything, and a massive round melodic 808 sub gives the low end real coastal weight, present without turning muddy.
Foghorn-like drone swells rise and fall through the arrangement, deliberately echoing the track's title, distant thunder rumbling at the edges of the stereo field. Neon-glow pads and a melodic pitched vocal chop add flickers of light against the otherwise obsidian mood, the whole piece painted in midnight fog-window imagery.
Fretless bass slides with a warm mwah tone under the changes, and the alphorn answers the foghorn's call directly, one horn calling to another across dark water. CP-70 piano adds a bell-like attack at key transitions, harmonica and violin tremolo bringing a corroded, salt-worn ache to the closing stretch, vinyl warp bending the final notes slightly out of true.
For a foggy coastal drive, staring at grey water, quiet grief, or a slow, contemplative night walk.
