The story

It opens on absence more than sound: a low hum sitting under everything, sub-bass pressing at 30-60Hz like the building itself is breathing. No drums yet. Just a shimmer of reverb catching light on nothing, and a fretless bass sliding in slow, mwah-soft, like it's feeling for a wall in the dark.

Around the two-minute mark the bagpipe drone enters, reedy and ceremonial, not played for melody but for weight — a held note that turns the space sacred and strange. The gated 80s kit arrives underneath, soft-attack, no click, no edge, just a rounded pulse that keeps time without insisting on it. The bass stays warm and groovy in its low register, filling the room without crowding it.

Midway through, a long filter sweep opens the top end, and the shimmer reverb pushes up an octave, turning the drone into something closer to light than sound. Dub-chord stabs land occasionally, brief and distant, like doors closing somewhere else in the building. The fretless keeps sliding through it, unhurried, the only voice that sounds alive.

By the close, the kit fades first, then the bagpipe, until only the sub-bass and the shimmer remain, hanging in the same hollow room they started in. Nothing resolves. It just stops being full.

For late-night drives through empty streets, closing down an office alone, transitional scenes in film work, or sitting with a coffee at the edge of sleep.
