The story

The track opens low, almost below hearing, a sub-bass pressure that sits under everything like still air in a cave. There is no kick, just a brushed pulse so faint it feels more like breathing than rhythm. Tibetan bells enter first, small points of light scattered across the dark, and the mellotron choir rises behind them in slow wordless syllables.

Around the second minute the violin takes the lead, sliding into long aching phrases that bend and hang before resolving. The fretless bass answers underneath, its mwah-slide movements tracing the same shapes an octave down, so the two feel like one voice split across register. Felt piano drops in occasionally, single notes close-miked and intimate, like a thought half-remembered.

The middle stretch thickens: dark drones move underwater beneath the pads, tape saturation rounds every edge, and the stereo field opens wide enough that the choir seems to surround rather than sit in front. Nothing sharpens. The mix stays soft-focus throughout, reverb tails stretching long after each phrase ends, so the silence between notes carries as much weight as the notes themselves.

By the final minute the violin and bass fade to occasional gestures, the bells thin out, and the sub-bass simply continues, unresolved, until the mellotron choir dissolves into tape hiss. It doesn't end so much as it stops being audible, gravity slowly releasing its hold.

Late-night wind-down, meditation or breathwork, background for reading or journaling, and long drives after dark.
