The story

Nightglass moves through four distinct swells at roughly 100 BPM in A minor, each one built higher and wider in the stereo field than the swell before it, with no vocals anywhere in the piece. A soaring lead guitar carries the melody the way a voice would across every swell, its phrasing shaped like sung lines even though the source is entirely instrumental.

A Juno pad and a round moog bass support the guitar underneath each rise, filling out the harmonic bed without pulling focus from the lead line, both instruments staying present but restrained through the loudest passages. Between each of the four swells the tide pulls back to almost nothing, the guitar fading to near silence before gathering again for the next rise.

That repeated pattern of retreat and return gives the piece its structure instead of a single climax, four separate peaks rather than one final release. The motif returns transformed at each new swell, register and timbre shifting slightly every time, until the last and widest peak gives way to the extended outro and the harbour finally goes quiet.

A late-night harbour walk, instrumental ambient wave sets, a slow tide-watching scene, or unwinding without lyrics.
