The story
The track opens low, almost below hearing, a sub-bass hum that sits under everything for the full four minutes. Gong strikes surface out of that hum like stones dropped in still water, their decay stretched by spatial reverb until the room feels twice as tall as it is. Tabla enters soft, rounded, no clicks, just a hand pressing into skin, laying a half-time pulse that never rushes.
Mellotron choir swells in slow waves, close and far at once, while an oud line threads through the low-mid, bent and slightly detuned, giving the whole thing a desert-at-dusk quality. Around the two-minute mark a wordless female vocalise appears, breathy, close-mic'd, murmuring a short motif that shifts shape each time it returns rather than looping flat.
Midway the groove tightens, chord stabs land with long delay tails, sonar pings ping off into the stereo field, and a distant rain recording drifts under the drums, barely there but audible if you listen for it. The sub-bass wobbles gently here, a slow meditative pulse rather than a drop, keeping the tension held instead of released.
By the last minute the tabla thins out, the choir stays, and the vocal murmur fades to a single held tone over the gong's last ring. Nothing resolves loudly. The hum that opened the track is the same hum that closes it, just quieter, like a door easing shut.
