The story

The track opens already submerged. A sub-bass floor sits under everything, not pulsing but pressing, the kind of low-end you feel in the floor before you notice it in your ears. Rain stick trickles in above it, granular and thin, like water finding cracks in stone. There's no drum kit here, no attack to speak of - just felt, rounded low tones and the constant hum of tape saturation keeping it warm instead of cold.

At the center, a hang drum carries the melody the way a voice might, phrasing slow and deliberate, each note left to decay into the reverb tail before the next arrives. Detuned bell tones drift in and out behind it, slightly off-pitch, giving the whole thing a sacred, off-kilter feel, like a cathedral bell rung underwater. Sonar pings surface occasionally, panned wide, marking time without keeping it.

Midway through, the sub-bass swells into full drops on the downbeats, the kind that hit like pressure changes rather than rhythm. The pads thicken into fog, muting the top end further, until the mix feels like it's sinking floor by floor into something ancient and half-lit. Nothing rushes. The hang drum keeps returning, unhurried, the one steady thing as everything else drifts.

By the close, the bell decays stretch longer, the rain stick thins to almost nothing, and the sub-bass holds its ground under a slowly fading hang drum phrase. It doesn't resolve so much as recede, leaving the low end as the last thing standing, still pressing, still there after the melody has gone quiet.

Late-night wind-down, deep meditation or breathwork, background for writing in low light, or falling asleep with headphones still on.
