When Mood Media is the better choice
Mood Media is built for scale. Its Signature and Engage plans give access to popular artists from a library of more than 120 million songs, and it offers messaging, signage, AV and scent for chains. Dr.DIO is not yet sold to chains and has no hardware.
Mood says it takes full legal responsibility for music licensing, including public performance fees. That is simple for businesses that want mainstream music.
When Dr.DIO fits better
Mood's cheapest plan, Fundamentals, uses independent artists rather than popular hits, and is priced yearly. Dr.DIO Business is similar in price, $14.99 a month or $149 a year, and also has no hits: it is 2,298 original tracks from one studio.
The difference is that you hear the music before you pay: the Dr.DIO radio is free with no ads, and Business has 14 free days. No Dr.DIO track is registered with any collecting society, and the license for Dr.DIO music comes from the studio directly. In some countries a society may presume all music is in its repertoire (GEMA in Germany is one example), and the venue may need to show it plays only non managed music. Radio, TV or live music in the same venue still need their own licenses.
