When Pandora CloudCover is the better choice

If your business is in the US or Canada and you want well known artists, Pandora CloudCover is a strong option. Its price per location is low for a major label service, and in the US it covers all four of ASCAP, BMI, GMR and SESAC for background use. Dr.DIO does not offer big label or SESAC music.

CloudCover also has a CloudBox player, Sonos support and extra audio zones at $12.95 a zone a month. Dr.DIO has no hardware or Sonos support and is one zone per venue.

When Dr.DIO fits better

Dr.DIO is not limited to the US and Canada. Business is $14.99 a month or $149 a year per venue, includes a public playback license and a certificate, your own station and an hourly schedule.

The music is original work from one studio, mostly instrumental downtempo, ambient, deep house, lounge and synthwave. No Dr.DIO track is registered with any collecting society, and the license for Dr.DIO music comes from the studio directly. In some countries a society may presume all music is in its repertoire (GEMA in Germany is one example), and the venue may need to show it plays only non managed music. Radio, TV or live music in the same venue still need their own licenses.

Both services exclude some uses: CloudCover excludes admission events, instructor led classes and live entertainment; with Dr.DIO, other music sources in the venue need their own licenses.

Questions

Can I play Pandora in my business?

A personal Pandora account is not the business product. Pandora CloudCover is the business service, run by Cloud Cover Music, with licensing included for background use in the US and Canada.

How much does Pandora CloudCover cost per month?

The Music plan is $18.95 a location a month, or $16.95 a month prepaid yearly. Manage is $23.95 and Messaging and Signage $29.95. Dr.DIO Business is $14.99 a month per venue.

Does Pandora CloudCover cover ASCAP and BMI?

CloudCover says that in the US its service covers ASCAP, BMI, GMR and SESAC, and in Canada SOCAN and Re:Sound, for background music streamed from its service.

Is Cloud Cover Music the same as Pandora CloudCover?

Yes. Cloud Cover Music is the company behind Pandora CloudCover, and its site now markets the service under the Pandora CloudCover brand with the same plans and licensing.

Is there an alternative outside the US and Canada?

CloudCover is sold only in the US and Canada. Dr.DIO Business is sold per venue with its own music. In some countries, for example Germany with GEMA, the society may presume all music is managed, so the venue may need to show it plays only non managed music. Any other music source still needs its own license.
