When Soundtrack is the better choice
Soundtrack is the stronger choice if your guests expect well known songs. Its catalog of over 125 million tracks from major labels is far larger than ours, and the Unlimited plan lets you import Spotify playlists and play on demand.
It also works with a long list of hardware: the Soundtrack Player, Sonos, Audio Pro, WiiM, Q SYS and others. Dr.DIO has no hardware players or Sonos integration, and Business is one zone per venue, so a chain or a venue with several rooms is better served by Soundtrack.
In the US, Soundtrack plans include ASCAP, BMI and GMR licenses, which matters if you want popular label music played legally.
When Dr.DIO fits better
If your venue mainly needs a steady background of downtempo, deep house, lounge or ambient, Dr.DIO Business costs $14.99 a month, about half of the Soundtrack Starter price, and includes a public playback license and a certificate for the venue.
All music is made by one studio, Dr.DIO Studio, so there are no label hits and no cover versions. No Dr.DIO track is registered with any collecting society, and the license for Dr.DIO music comes from the studio directly. In some countries a society may presume all music is in its repertoire (GEMA in Germany is one example), and the venue may need to show it plays only non managed music. Radio, TV or live music in the same venue still need their own licenses.
