When Spotify is the better choice
For listening at home, on the way to work or with headphones, Spotify has a far larger catalog than Dr.DIO, with major label music in every genre. Dr.DIO has no pop, rock, hip hop or classical.
Spotify's business offering was historically run by Soundtrack Your Brand, which calls itself formerly Spotify Business. If you want label music in a venue, Soundtrack is the route Spotify itself points to.
When Dr.DIO fits better
Spotify's Terms of Use, Section 3, give limited permission for personal, non commercial use of the service and its content. Playing it to customers falls outside that.
Dr.DIO Business is $14.99 a month per venue and includes a public playback license and certificate. No Dr.DIO track is registered with any collecting society, and the license for Dr.DIO music comes from the studio directly. In some countries a society may presume all music is in its repertoire (GEMA in Germany is one example), and the venue may need to show it plays only non managed music. Radio, TV or live music in the same venue still need their own licenses.
How to try Dr.DIO
- Listen to the free radio stations on drdio.studio to hear the catalog
- Sign in with Google or Apple and choose Business for your venue
- Use the first 14 days free with the venue player in the browser
- Set your own station and hourly schedule, and keep the venue certificate
